Share Files Publicly on Dropbox

Please note that the ability to make a file publicly viewable is controlled by the organization’s Dropbox settings. You may need to ask your administrator to enable this function if you’re not an admin.

Sign in to Dropbox:

  1. Go to the Dropbox website.
  2. Enter your Dropbox email address and password, then click “Sign In”.

Select the file or folder you want to share:

  1. From the main Dropbox window, navigate through your file directory until you locate the file or folder you wish to make publicly viewable.
  2. Click on the file or folder to select it.

Initiate the sharing process:

  1. With the file or folder selected, click the “Share” button on the right side of the window or from the options menu that appears when you hover over the file/folder.

Set the sharing permissions:

  1. In the sharing window, you’ll see a field labeled “Share a link instead”. Click on “Create link”.
  2. Once the link is created, click on “Settings” (the gear icon next to the link).
  3. In the link settings, ensure the option “Anyone with the link” is selected. This will allow anyone with the link to view the file.
  4. If you don’t want others to edit the file, make sure the “Allow editing” option is turned off. This is important, as this will ensure that people can only view or download the file and not edit it.
  5. If you want the link to stop working after a specific date, select the “Add expiration” checkbox and choose a date.

Get the sharing link:

  1. Click on “Save” to apply the settings.
  2. Click “Copy link” to copy the link to your clipboard.

Share the link:

  1. You can now share this link with anyone, even if they’re outside your organization. Anyone with the link can view or download the file, but they won’t be able to edit it.

Please remember to handle sensitive information responsibly.

Be cautious when making a file or folder publicly viewable, and always double-check the permissions settings before sharing a link.
